Rs. 85 lakh playfield at Panjpeer

JAMMU, JUNE 22-Minister for Housing, Horticulture, Culture, Youth Services and Sports Mr. Raman Bhalla on Sunday evening laid foundation stones of two stadiums involving cost Rs. 85 lakh, one at Panjpeer in Bathindi and another at Sainik Colony.
Secretary Sports Council Mr. Dalip Thusoo, Managing Director Jammu and Kashmir Housing Board (JKHB) Mr. Ram Paul Sharma besides other senior officers of Sports and JKHB were present on the occasion.
 Addressing the function after laying the foundation of stadiums, the Minister said the proposed stadium would be constructed with all standard facilities and amenities for playing all the games. He said he is very optimistic about the creative capabilities of local youth and it is only a matter of exposure that these youth need for showing their mettle. He directed the executing agencies to ensure completion of the works within the stipulated time schedule. He asked the local youth to take benefits of the stadiums once they get ready.
Mr. Bhalla said that the playfields would be a precious gift for the youth of Panjpeer and Sainik Colony areas as it would have facilities for varied sports activities with state of art infrastructure. He said there was great need of such stadiums in the selective areas, adding that Government was keen to develop sports facilities in every nook and corner of the state on national and international standards.
Underscoring the need for upgrading sports infrastructure in the State, the Minister said that several initiatives have been already taken by the Government in this regard and measures are afoot to increase the number of facilities for sports lovers to take up various sports activities in addition to their academic pursuits. He said that the youth of the state have tremendous potential to participate in every kind of sports activity but there is dire need to explore their talent by way of extending various hi-tech facilities at par with other states of the country.
Mr. Bhalla urged upon youth to take part in sports as well as in academic activities so that the new generation will bear sound mind in sound body. He said Government is doing its best to promote sports culture in the State and every possible facility is being extended to Sports lovers. He asked the youth to prepare themselves for competition not only at State and National level but also at International level.
